Among the featured molecules are essential compounds such as water, carbon dioxide, and ammonia, which have profoundly influenced our understanding of resources, climate, and food production. These molecules also played a crucial role in the early development of life on Earth. In addition, the app delves into synthetic compounds like nitroglycerin, polyethylene, and aspirin, highlighting their historical significance and impact on society.

This application aims to provide users with a deeper understanding of the chemical foundations of these molecules and their contributions to cultural and historical developments that have defined modern life.

The app serves as a digital counterpart to the interactive 3D installation “Molecules that Changed the World,” created by Ljiljana Fruk and Bernd Lintermann. This installation was developed at ZKM/Institute for Visual Media to complement the "Molecular Aesthetics" Symposium held at ZKM | Centre for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2011.
